Leupold GX-2 Digital Golf Rangefinder Review
The GX-2's PinHunter function lasers precisely on a pin or other target. |
Advanced Features
The GX-2 also includes a number of advanced features, such as True Golf Range (TGR) and Club Selector. The TGR function uses sophisticated algorithmic-based software, temperature inputs, and altitude inputs to tell you exactly how far you should play a shot. If a golfer is hitting from the tee at a 30-degree slope above the green, the TGR will incorporate a golfer's hitting strength to calculate the best possible horizontal and vertical approach to the flag. Some golfers may be better served hitting a 6-iron, which will push the ball at a flatter trajectory and drop it down to the green sooner, while others would do better hitting a high 8-iron. The Club Selector takes the TGR function a step further by automatically recommending the appropriate club for each shot, and even indicating when the distance falls between clubs. Simply input the striking distance for three specific clubs and the GX-2 will do the rest. The TGR and Club Selector features offer a perfect way to get to know a course and improve your golf game.
The GX-2 also offers both Fog and Scan modes. Unlike most rangefinders--which give measurements from the first target returned, which in some cases is the fog between you and the pin--the GX-2 cuts through the weather to provide fast, accurate measurements to the green. You don't let anything stand between you and the cup, so why should your rangefinder? The Scan mode, meanwhile, delivers multiple readings in one quick sweep. Just hold down the Power button and the display will continuously update with accurate line-of-sight measurements.

Nikon 8377 Riflehunter 1000 Rangefinder Review
Advanced ocular technology automatically adjusts contrast settings to suit the light conditions. |
In brighter conditions, the rangefinder will display the newly-designed LCD, which provides suitable contrast and readability against a variety of backgrounds, together with enhanced light transmission. In darker conditions, the rangefinder automatically turns on the orange LED illumination to the liquid crystal characters for optimum visibility, adjusting brightness as needed for appropriate contrast.
A 28% larger ocular and 23% wider field of view from prior models allows you to quickly find your target, while a clean, uncluttered display shows range out to 1,000 yards. The field-proven ID technology calculates for any shot angle up to 89 degrees. Nikon's Tru-Target mode allows the user to choose between two settings, First Target Priority or Distant Target Priority modes. First Target mode makes ranging lone animals in unobstructed situations a snap--the rangefinder measures the distance to the first target hit by the laser, even small twigs, while Distant Target mode is designed for situations where ranging animals through brush or other impediments is necessary.
The rangefinder additionally boasts Nikon's legendary multicoated optics, water- and fog-proof rugged durability, and pocket-sized portability.
A 28% larger ocular and 23% wider field of view compared to prior models allows fast target acquisition. |

Range
How a Laser Rangefinder Works
Bushnell's Yardage Pro rangefinders use an invisible, eye-safe Class 1 Laser beam (as classified by the FDA) which is "bounced" off distant objects with the press of a button. Then, the rangefinder's high-speed digital clock measures the time it took for a laser beam to reach a target and return to the unit. Next, using advanced digital electronics, the rangefinder instantly calculates the distance within ±1 yard and shows the range in either yards or meters on a through-the-lens LCD Display. The entire process is so fast that less than a second elapses between the time you press the button to generate a laser beam to the time the exact range to your target is displayed.
CONFIDENCE HAS A NEW LOOK AND FEEL it's like perfect feel in putting, just 1,000 yeards long. The new Tour V2 with Pinseeker laser rangefinders rests in your hand with an ergonomic precision that boilds confidence and pride. Its guts are 100% Bushnell laser rangefinder, but the package outside will rival your favorite driver with a custom high-tak grip. The new V2 sets a new standard in the complete laser rangefinder package -looks, feel and performance. A package that may see players starting to waggle their V2 before the range with their targets.

Bushnell 7 x 26 Elite 1600 Horizontal Rangefinder - Black Review
The rangefinder also offers a number of specially designed distance modes. Bow Mode, for example, simultaneously displays line-of-sight, angle, and true horizontal distances to the target from 5 to 99 yards. In Rifle Mode, you'll receive bullet-drop and holdover information customizable for the exact zeroed range of your rifle in conjunction with the Variable Sight-In (VSI) distance technology. The rangefinder also offers Scan Mode, which continually scans the course and updates the LCD with the latest distance info; BullsEye Mode, which acquires the distances of close-in small targets and game without inadvertently measuring background target distances; and Brush Mode, which ignores the brush and branches in the foreground and displays background distances only.
And with its super-premium, fully multicoated optics, no laser rangefinder monocular delivers a more stunning view. The housing is 100-percent waterproof, with Bushnell's patented RainGuard HD lens coating ensuring a clear view in moist conditions. Featured on all Elite products, the unique water-repellent coating causes water drops from rain, snow, sleet, or condensation to bead up into much smaller droplets. These tiny droplets scatter less light, resulting in a much clearer and brighter picture.
How Bushnell's Laser Rangefinders Work
Bushnell's laser rangefinders use an invisible, eye-safe Class 1 laser beam (as classified by the FDA), which is "bounced" off distant objects at the press of a button. In the process, the rangefinder uses a high-speed digital clock to measure the time it took for the laser beam to reach the target and return, and then calculates the distance within plus-or-minus 1 yard. The entire process is so fast that less than a second elapses between the time you press the button and the time the exact range appears. The information appears on the unit's through-the-lens LCD display.
Because rangefinders bounce laser beams off targets in order to take measurements, their range is partially determined by the target's reflectivity. So distances to reflective or "hard" targets like rock cliffs and semis can be measured from farther away than those to soft-surface targets such as deer. Ranges for moderately reflective targets, like trees, fall somewhere in the middle. Most experienced hunters will use their rangefinder to estimate ranges to near and distant landmarks before they actually encounter a game animal. By pre-measuring ranges to spots where trophies are likely to appear, they can concentrate on making an accurate shot when the moment of truth arrives.
